Short films Explanation

What is a short film?

A short film is any film not long enough to be considered a featured film. A short film can go from anywhere above 5-40mins in my opinion. I say this due to it being a short you wouldn't want a short film to be longer than 40mins but most are before that.

short film is any film not long enough to be considered a feature film. No consensus exists as to where that boundary is drawn: the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences defines a short film as "an original motion picture that has a running time of 40 minutes or less, including all credits".

I researched a few short films:

One of them being:

The man with the beautiful eyes
Length: 5:38
Director: Jonathan Hodgson
Year: 1999
Initial Release: 2000

In the short film I noticed:

- That as a whole they pushed the boundaries
- They took risks
- Was very different from any other short film
- It was created through classical animation techniques
- It shows clearly that it is based around discrimination
- You had to watch the visual to understand the storyline

Another one being:

About a Girl
Length: 9:53
Director: Brian Percival
Year: 2001

In the short film I noticed:

- They pushed the boundaries
- It was as if I was taking a physical journey and a metaphorical journey at the same
- Shows the topic and appearance rather than the reality
- Shows social realism
- Raises regard for distinctive ideologies

And the last short film I researched was:

Soft
Length: 14:10
Director: Simon Ellis
Year: 2006
Initial Release: 2007

In the short film I noticed:

- Overall, it was a simple set; (house / street)
- This short film also pushed the boundary
- Based on bullying
- Very realistic event
- Very different from the norm because its about a boy doing it instead of the man
- Relevant in a modern society
