Time is an essential factor within production, efficient management of time can lead to production running smoothly and finishing on the date set. However, poor management of time can lead to deadlines being missed and the project going over its set budget. 
What follows are key criteria for time in the media production:

Deadlines:
- Shoot
  - 1st Day of principal photography
    - (all pre-production must be complete before this date)
  - Last day of the shoot
    - (all footage must be secured by this date)
- Picture Lock (Picture lock is a stage in editing a film or editing a television production. It is the stage prior to online editing when all changes to the film or television program cut have been done and approved. It is then sent to subsequent stages in the process, such as online editing and audio mixing.)
